Gain a solid foundation in these essential areas to enhance your capabilities in the field of architecture. Join us as we navigate through essential skills and knowledge crucial for success in the diverse field of architecture.
Learning Objectives
- Grasp the significance of the Standard of Care and the principle of safeguarding “the health, safety, and welfare of the public” across all facets of architectural practice. Gain insight into the legal obligations that architects bear, whether explicitly stated or implied. Recognize the pivotal role this care plays in ensuring the safety of buildings for public use, ensuring that the chosen methods and materials do not pose harm to the broader community.
- Explore laws and regulations to gain insights into code requirements and compliance. Analyze how zoning regulations govern land use and codes ensure life safety standards. Adherence to both sets of regulations provides assurance to the public that buildings are strategically planned to reflect the best practices of the time, considering social norms and community planning.
- Recognize the broader impact of legal and ethical issues on everyone involved in the built environment. Comprehend the legal and ethical considerations involved in pursuing a career as an architect, both in an office setting and while managing projects. Architects need to discern what is appropriate, identify actions that may compromise ethical standards, and understand the potential repercussions on the success and well-being of a project.
- Evaluate the integration of sustainability as a central element in design and examine its effects on cost, liability, functionality, and the well-being of occupants.
