On July 18th, AIA Nova’s Young Architect’s Forum (YAF) held its second annual Mentor Golf event at TopGolf National Harbor. This much-anticipated evening brought together a diverse group of professionals for an experience that seamlessly blended networking, learning, and, naturally, golf. The event saw participation from prominent local firms including Jacobs, KGD, MTFA, and FGM Architects, alongside product representatives from Novum Structures, Stego, and the Barger Agency, representing Delta Faucets, each contributing to the event’s overall success.

During the evening, small groups of mentees, mentors, and product representatives rotated through short games, providing plenty of opportunities for both networking and improving their golf skills. Special thanks go to the sponsors for their support and to the mentors, Christopher Kehde of FGM Architects, Manoj Dalaya of KGD, Mina Kwon from Jacobs, and Braden Field from MTFA Architecture, for sharing their professional insights and golfing skills. Additionally, heartfelt thanks are extended to Tom Becherer from Jacobs for his exceptional efforts in managing and coordinating the event, ensuring its smooth and successful execution.

Notable moments from the evening included Braden Field’s tips on improving short game techniques, Lauryn Stapleton’s impressive drives, and some intriguing updates on Christopher Kehde’s upcoming role as AIA NOVA president in 2025. Attendees also enjoyed mingling with colleagues and making new connections with professionals from other local firms.

The combination of friendly competition, networking with mentors and peers at various experience levels, and the chance to refine golf skills made for a great evening. The positive experience has set high expectations for next year’s event, with anticipation already growing for another successful gathering.
