The success of our AIA Northern Virginia Chapter is built on the active and impassioned involvement of our members and the steady flow of dedicated volunteer leaders that have been willing to invest their time, energy, and passion to serve our profession.

In March, we celebrated our decades of strong NoVA Chapter leadership at the Past Presidents Happy Hour + Networking Event, graciously hosted by DBI Architects at their office in Reston. This inaugural event brought together our current Executive Committee and Past Presidents spanning five decades, with the evening proving to be an extraordinary opportunity to reminisce and exchange ideas about the past, present, and future of our Chapter and our profession.

An evening highlight was when current Chapter President, Braden Field, spoke to the full group to thank our Past Presidents for their service to our Chapter and invited them to share their personal experiences. Amidst the fascinating array of storytelling that ensued, many spoke about their personal path to becoming involved with the AIA, and how important it is that we continue to inspire and encourage the next generation of leaders. Also mentioned was the evolving nature of our committees and activities that are the core of our membership engagement, and how the Chapter continues to grow and change to support our membership’s interest and needs. As Braden brought the evening to a close, he noted his hope that this event will inspire continued collaborative discussions to build on the wealth of experience that our Past Presidents have to offer.

On behalf of the current Executive Committee, I want to once again thank our past presidents for their service to our AIA community, and I invite all of our members to celebrate and honor them by carrying forward their legacy of dedicated service and leadership.
