Join AIA NoVa LGBTQIA+ Alliance for an interactive virtual discussion exploring practical ways architecture firms can create more inclusive workplaces for LGBTQIA+ employees. Drawing on real-world advocacy and workplace experiences, the program will examine inclusive policies, benefits, protections, and everyday practices, while offering resources and strategies for employees, allies, firm leaders, and owners seeking to strengthen workplace culture, recruitment, and retention.

Presenter:

Michael Spory (Senior Associate, VMDO Architects)
A senior associate in VMDO’s DC office, Michael has led and worked on a variety of complex community and institutional projects, developing collaborative design processes that achieve real impact. A project manager and business development leader, he has guided and led an array of public and private projects totaling over $350 million for clients across Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia, including the first net-zero energy community center in DC and the first residence hall and dining facility at Johns Hopkins University in over 40 years. He has served as the Associate Director on the AIA Virginia Board of Directors, as a member and former chair of the AIA VA Design Committee, and was a member of the 2017 ELA class and an ongoing mentor and mentee in a variety of ongoing VMDO internal initiatives.
