Project Development & Documentation (PDD) is one of six virtual prep courses AIA NoVA offers annually. Each class provides attendees with an opportunity to learn from top-notch design professionals while gaining knowledge that can be used to prepare for each section of the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®). Course Description
Prepare for the Project Development and Documentation section of the Architect Registration Examination 5.0 (ARE 5.0) with our insightful course! This division, one of the six in ARE 5.0, is designed to enhance your project development and documentation skills. Explore practical content focused on the integration and documentation of building materials and systems. Dive into the essentials of construction documentation, specifications, codes and regulations, and construction cost estimates. Join us for a solid preparation experience that goes beyond the basics and readies you for the challenges of architectural practice and examination.
Learning Objectives
- Explore the integration of technical knowledge encompassing architectural systems, technologies, as well as mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components. Learn how to coordinate and refine a building design using this comprehensive understanding that lays the foundation for a healthy and safe building for the occupants.
- Investigate the meticulous adherence to building and specialty regulatory requirements at a detailed level. Analyze construction cost estimates to ensure their alignment with the project design and its ability to ensure the life safety of the occupants.
- Review the process of translating design decisions into precise construction documentation, ensuring the constructability of both the building and site ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the building occupants.
- Discover and discuss how to integrate materials and building systems to meet the project design requirements through proper detailing, documentation, and the development of project manuals and specifications that enable construction of the project while ensuring the public’s safety.

Cancellation requests must be received via email (to [email protected]) no later than 5:00pm on the Wednesday immediately prior to the Saturday class to receive a refund (minus credit card and processing fees). Any session missed will not be refunded; however, paid registrants will receive any pre-/post-session class materials. Class materials from any refunded session will not be provided. Registrants who purchase the series bundle package are eligible for one class refund (minus credit card and processing fees) and will not receive the class materials. Any additional classes missed are not eligible for refund; however, you will receive class materials.
