The second annual WIA Architecture Month walking & sketching historic tour event, in collaboration with Urban Sketchers Washington DC, and the first with Young Architects Forum, was a success! This judgement is measured by the number of people brought together across different fields and interests to learn more about both architecture and history, while sharing a passion for sketching.

The tour began at the Old Town Market Square, where we learned about the market and surrounding buildings’ history. We then headed to Carlyle House and walked down one of the cobblestone streets. Here, the group had a chance to sketch and enjoy the surroundings. We also had two other sketch points, at the Torpedo Factory and Potomac Harvest 1749 Historic Harvest. The tour concluded with a review and appreciation of all the sketches while also enjoying the Old Town Alexandria Waterfront.

I hope you enjoy the collection of sketches which were produced. -Susy M. Mikhail, AIA
