Senior Architect, Wiley | Wilson
Sonia received her B. Arch from Kansas State University in 2001 and relocated to Virginia in 2005, where she is currently a Senior Architect at Wiley|Wilson. Active in the chapter since 2008, she served on the Board of Directors for more than ten of those years, including serving on the Chapter’s Executive Committee from 2019-2023. She has worked on multiple task forces including the 2021 Executive Director Search, Board Manual update and the 2023-2028 Strategic Plan, which serves as a guide for the chapter.
She has been active on the School Connections Committee (SCC) since 2017, serving as Chair in 2017 and is currently Co-Chair. Part of her responsibilities in the SCC has included Chairing or Co-Chairing the Interschool Student Design Competition (ISDC) at the National Building Museum since 2017. Previously, Sonia chaired the Women in Architecture Committee (WIA) for five years and has been involved in both Architecture in the Schools and Canstruction®. She was one of the original designers of the chapter’s 360 Mentoring program and helped initiate WIA’s clothing drive benefiting Dress for Success. In 2011, Sonia was recognized with a Service to the Chapter Award for her work with WIA and again in 2019 for her work with the SCC.
In 2010 Sonia was nominated by the chapter to be a member of AIA Virginia’s Emerging Leaders in Architecture Program (ELA) and is currently serving on its Steering Committee. She looks forward to the opportunity to serve the AIA membership as an AIA Virginia Director.
