Come see what’s happening on Mass Ave near DuPont Circle – there have been some changes underway at Inspir Embassy Row.   Led by members of architecture firm Beyer Blinder Belle Architects (BBB), the project team for the Inspir Embassy Row Senior Living project will lead a building tour allowing participants a behind-the-scenes look at the adaptive reuse, modernization, and transformation of the historic Fairfax Hotel on Embassy Row into new luxury assisted senior living. Before the new residents move in, participants will get to see what it takes to convert a historic hotel into a home for seniors including exterior restoration, interior accessibility improvements, and design features such as zero-threshold transitions, sustainability, and programmatic requirements of senior living while working with an existing building.

  • Showcase how governing codes can be applied seamlessly on an adaptive reuse project of a historic property to meet compliance requirements of modernizing and transitioning a former hotel into a senior living facility while ensuring the new residents health and safety.
  • Discuss how the design of an adaptive reuse project can integrate health and wellness (to achieve WELL Bronze), and sustainability (to achieve LEED Silver), and review how these certifications can impact the wellbeing of the occupants.
  • Discuss and review how life safety features and accessibility improvements have been integrated into the historic building to support elderly residents, including fire protection, emergency egress, and universal design principles.
  • Review techniques and materials used in the restoration of historic masonry, terracotta, and cornice elements, including appropriate cleaning, repair, and replacement methods that ensure structural integrity and historical accuracy.
