In what has become an annual tradition, AIA Northern Virginia recently participated in the Mt. Vernon Community School Science Fair. Member volunteers provided students with toothpicks, gumdrops, and sample designs to experiment building their own miniature structures.

Architecturally focused K–12 programming inspires youth to learn about the power and impact of design, nourishes creativity, and establishes exposure to the profession for youth to gain a broader understanding of potential career trajectories.
Sounds rewarding, right!? Well, some exciting news…there are many more engaging K-12 programming opportunities available! If working with students to spark creativity and sharpen critical thinking skills sounds like something you would enjoy, then send a quick email to [email protected]. We will add your name to a list of volunteers to contact as K-12 programming opportunities become available.
Alternatively, if you are super passionate about fostering relationships with local schools to promote awareness of the architecture profession and its impact on the built environment, we are always looking for people to reinvigorate our Architecture Lab Committee! Just think of all the gumdrops…
