Interschool Design Competition Winning Teams
Posted Friday, September 21

AIA Northern Virginia is pleased to announce the winning teams for the Interschool Design Competition, held at the National Building Museum on September 16.

For over two decades, the three metro area chapters of the AIA, six local schools of architecture and the National Building Museum have collaborated to organize the annual ISDC. This year’s challenge, developed by Virginia Tech’s Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center, was Mother Earth Daycare Center: Education Towards a New Way of Living. The main objective of this program was to frame the discussion of ‘good’ living for both humans and mother earth.  It encompassed housing and education and the importance that this belief should be introduced at an early age. The program included a daycare center, residences, and a mix of edible landscape with recreational spaces supporting education facilities.

Participating schools: The Catholic University of America; Howard University; Morgan State University; University of the District of Columbia; University of Maryland; and Virginia Tech Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center.

Congratulations to First Place – Team 7: Cristhy Centeno Arias (Maryland), Muzhgan Hussaini (Virginia Tech), Jonathan Melgarejo (Morgan State), Patrick Suarez (Catholic), Justina Starrad (Howard), and Cameron Wright (UDC)

Second Place – Team 5: Akiel Allen (Morgan), Joshua Climenson (Maryland), Zoe Cyphers (Catholic), Alyssa Jenkins (Howard), Roberta McCord (Virginia Tech), and Ashley Myers (UDC)
