Summary
This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief Engineer, Energy and Design Services Division. The selectee will perform a variety of duties that are broad in scope, with respect to construction administration for rehabilitation of existing buildings in the Capitol complex.
Duties
*** Please Note: This position is temporary in nature and is not to exceed 2 years. This is strictly a temporary appointment where there is no permanent need or permanent funding available for the work involved. It is a position that is subject to the project needs of the Agency. Therefore, the appointment could be terminated at any time due to shortage of work or shortage of funds without any advance notice. If project work continues however, it could be extended beyond the 2-year time frame at the sole discretion of the Agency. As a non-permanent employee, you may also be separated for failure to meet management’s expectations, with no advance notice. ***
The individuals selected for this position will perform the following:
Technical Architectural Advice and Guidance
- Serves as an authoritative source of information and advice within the organization concerning architecture and historic preservation.
- Participates in planning conferences with supervisory and project architects to provide necessary information pertaining to architecture.
- Evaluates facility or structural design objectives.
- Completes a technical review of architectural documents proposed by IDIQ consultants for assigned projects as the Architectural Task Leader.
Architectural Requirements, Specifications and Facility Design Work
- Reviews work of external A/E for quality, completeness, and conformance with AOC Design Standards.
- Reviews Contractor’s Requests for Information, Construction Submittals, and Change Proposals to ensure conformance with AOC Design Standards and the contract documents.
- Reviews Architect’s Supplemental Instructions, RFI responses, Proposal Requests, and Architect’s Field Reports to ensure conformance with AOC Design Standards and the contract documents.
- Makes periodic visits to the construction site to view work in progress to ensure conformance with AOC Design Standards and the contract documents and prepares reports of observations.
- Informs superiors of non-conforming work.
Project Management
- Performs progressively more complex architectural duties involving a variety of facilities, structures, or equipment systems performing various functions and purposes.
- Assesses project progress and maintains liaison between the various activities involved in the assignment.
- Investigates alternatives when program changes or architectural compromises must be made.
- Reports project status to management and meets the client’s objectives.
- Utilizes a thorough knowledge of and compliance with all building codes and OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas.
