Learning Objectives:
• Identify the current composition of the Virginia General Assembly, including the committee structure of the House and Senate, and understand its organization, election cycle, and budget.
• Examine the process by which bills are introduced, discussed, and passed in the General Assembly and how these bills can support and protect the architecture profession as well as prescribe licensure, services, and procurement taxes that affect architectural practice.
• Define the important issues shared in the membership survey and address critical issues such as school security, resilience, sustainability, and housing access and affordability.
• Promote architect involvement in advocacy efforts and explain the importance and influence advocacy can have on matters of importance to the architecture profession.
