Bishop Ireton High School Construction Tour

At Bishop Ireton High School, 201 Cambridge Road, Alexandria, VA 22314.

Project architects from the design firm, Maginniss + del Ninno Architects, will guide participants through the four-story, 40,000 square foot addition to Bishop Ireton High School. The addition will house the school’s new academic wing, containing classrooms, STEM labs, a cafeteria, and the library.

Hosted by AIA Northern Virginia’s Women in Architecture Committee and Young Architects Forum.

1.5 LU|HSW. $8 for AIA members; $15 for non-members. Participants will meet at the construction trailer. Hardhats and safety shoes required.

Learning Objectives
• Consider program requirements and design strategies that support integrating the school’s curriculum with the new educational spaces.
• Investigate the ongoing construction of building systems, including structural frame, exterior skin, and mechanical systems.
• Examine the construction site to understand environmental issues and constraints, such as storm water and construction waste management.
• Assess various strategies used to manage phased construction in an occupied building to meet life safety requirements and the educational needs of the occupants.
