AIA Northern Virginia
Technology and Design for Self-Powered Homes
October 12

At the Tesla Showroom, 909 H Street, NW, #601, Washington, DC 20001.

Presented by John Crockett, Tesla Energy Advisor, this workshop will provide participants the latest design and technology for high efficiency self-powered homes. Homeowners increasingly demand new and existing homes provide an energy ecosystem that allows for electric vehicles, solar production and energy storage. This workshop will provide participants a hands-on and interactive overview of the technology, installation and design of a number of home energy solutions including:

     • Electric vehicle charging stations
     • Home energy storage (Powerwall and others)
     • Solar panels and solar roofing tiles
     • Home energy monitoring applications and advanced thermostats

The workshop will deliver detailed information to professionals on how to incorporate these home energy technologies into the design of both new and existing homes, using examples and case studies from the greater DC area.

• Participants will learn the specifications of a variety of electric vehicle charging stations including cost and features.

• Participants will learn about the numerous solar technologies including traditional panel arrays and the most recent innovations in solar roof tiles. This will include typical energy production, cost and project timelines for each.

• Participants will learn the technical specifications, uses and cost of battery back-up systems that provide 24/7 on demand back-up to homes. This will include hands-on demonstrations of battery back-up systems including the Tesla Powerwall.

• Participants will consider how advanced thermostats and mobile application are being used to track energy usage and provide greater control of energy cost.
