Brick Fundamentals (1 HSW LU)
The intent of this course is to analyze the ASTM performance criteria for clay brick and identify how it offers durability, safety and energy efficiency benefits.

• Examine the clay face brick manufacturing process and describe the environmental, health and life cycle benefits of the resulting ceramic product
• Analyze the key aspects of ASTM performance criteria for clay brick and how these brick contribute to the durability of a masonry wall system
• Define the components of a drainage wall system and explain how it increases energy efficiency and assists with moisture management
• Identify brick orientation and bond patterns and observe how different orientations and patterns affect the aesthetic appeal of a project

Designing Commercial Projects with Manufactured Stone Veneer (1 HSW LU)
Design guidelines for sustainable manufactured stone veneer buildings, including product innovations and industry related education.

• Examine the manufactured stone veneer manufacturing process
• Analyze key installation detailing for high performance buildings
• Understand aesthetic, environmental, cost and productivity impacts of various manufactured veneer masonry systems and their contribution to sustainable design.
• Describe advancements in manufactured stone veneer

Understanding Poly-Ash Siding and the Other Categories of the Siding Market (1 HSW LU)
An examination of the new Poly-Ash category of exterior siding as it relates to other types of siding, specifically around the areas of installation, maintenance, and sustainability.

• Identify the various types of exterior siding and material composition
• Understand the key attributes of each siding category and installation concerns
• Define the Poly-Ash category of exterior siding and performance attributes of the material
• Identify key applications and installation guidelines for Poly-Ash siding
