Schematic Design:
In preparation for the Architect Registration Examination, participants will review all aspects of the Schematic Design Division, which focuses on the resolution of programmatic and contextual requirements into a responsive and cohesive solution through the process of schematic design. This session will cover both the building and interior layout vignettes.
• Participants will analyze design procedures using programmatic data to inform design decisions and strategies.
• Participants will consider elements of the building layout vignette and examine strategies for creating and modifying space, including spatial organization, functional response, building efficiency, typical space programs, circulation and design intent.
• Participants will consider building assemblies, examining general site criteria, code requirements, energy concepts, structural systems and mechanical systems.
• Participants will consider elements of the interior layout vignette and examine strategies for creating and modifying the design of an interior space plan, including layout considerations, door placement, furniture arrangement responding to the program, code requirements and accessibility requirements.
4 HSW LU3. $40 for AIA members and $60 for non-members. The cost includes lunch and study materials. Advance registration is required one week prior to class.
