The Young Architects Forum has scheduled the 2016 Architect Registration Exam (ARE) Prep Courses. The series run through May and includes sessions on each section of the exam, as well as supplemental courses to provide information on topics that are sprinkled throughout the exams.

All ARE sessions offer continuing education credit and can be taken by members as review sessions.

Programming, Planning + Practice

In preparation for the Architect Registration Examination, participants will explore the application of project development knowledge and skills relating to architectural programming; environmental, social, and economic issues; codes and regulations; and project and practice management.

• Participants will consider programming and analysis, examining the nature and considerations of architectural design; form prototypes including organizational values, organization and design, organizational factors, organizational patterns, and determinants of form; programming and space needs; and building prototypes, including housing, hotels, schools, retail, theaters, hospitals and parking facilities.

• Participants will consider environmental, social and economic issues, examining the design relationship to the human body; urban design; the relationship between the urban environment and the physical and psychological well-being of society; environmental factors including climate, ecology and sustainable design; and land analysis.

• Participants will examine codes and regulations as they affect land and building regulation and zoning ordinances and building codes.

• Participants will consider elements of project and practice management including scheduling of design and construction, budget analysis and cost estimating, delivery methods, and structuring the architectural design team.

4 HSW LU. $40 for AIA members and $60 for non-members. The cost includes lunch and study materials. Advance registration is required one week prior to class.
