360 Mentoring Opening Session
September 16
6:15-8:00p

In Ballston.

Mentoring is an integral part of our careers in architecture. It starts during school with our professors and fellow students. It continues as we enter the field and are mentored by our co-workers and firm leaders. But it doesn’t stop. With an ever changing industry, mentoring occurs at all levels, from the principal all the way to the intern.

This year’s topic for the General Sessions is Moving On, Moving Up, Moving Out.

• Moving On – Changing Jobs, Starting a Firm, Preparing a Path to Fellowship and Retirement
• Moving Up – Climbing the Corporate Ladder
• Moving Out – Changing Fields, Life Transitions and the Missing 32%

On September 16 we will start 360 Mentoring, a year-long program where participants are organized in groups of 4-6 people with a range of experience. The groups are organized by location to help facilitate meetings and will not include participants from the same firm. The goal of this program is to develop relationships with others outside of one’s own firm and with different levels of experience.

This first meeting includes all participants and provides an overview of the program. Three other general sessions are planned over the next 8 months. They are currently scheduled for the third Wednesday of November (the 18th), February (the 17th) and April (the 20th). All general sessions will be in the evening, from 6:15 to 8:00p.  All general sessions will occur at the same Ballston location. The November, February and April sessions will each offer 1.5 LUs. The individual groups are encouraged to have monthly meetings on their own at a time and location of their choosing.

360 Mentoring is organized by AIA Northern Virginia’s Young Architects Forum, Schools Connections, Women in Architecture and Fellows committees.

There is a $25 fee for AIA members and a $30 fee for non-AIA members. Registration is limited.

Reservations must be received by COB, Tuesday, September 8 to allow time for groups to be formed prior to the September 16 meeting. Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to a 5 minute survey.  The survey needs to be completed by COB on Wednesday, September 9.
