Interschool Design Competition
September 20
September 17-22

At the National Building Museum, 401 F Street, NW, DC 20001, on the Red Line, Judiciary Square Station.

For over two decades, the three metro area chapters of the AIA, six local schools of architecture, the Washington Architectural Foundation and the National Building Museum have collaborated to organize the annual ISDC. Students enrolled in architecture programs at Catholic University, Howard University, Morgan State University, Virginia Tech’s Washington-Alexandria Architectural Center (WAAC), University of Maryland and the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) have greatly benefited from participating.

This year Ralph Belton, RA, UDC’s Department of Architecture and Community Planning Chairperson, has developed the design challenge – a re-visioning of the Pershing Park and Memorial located on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW between 14th and 15th streets. Teams of students will be asked to imagine structures and uses to activate the park while maintaining the aspect of a memorial to General Pershing. A distinguished jury will select the winning teams.

Events include:
September 17 – Kick-Off Reception for Students

September 20 – Charrette at the National Building Museum, 9:00a-5:00p
Visitors are welcome to view the charrette in progress.

September 22 – Jury and Awards Ceremony and Reception at the National Building Museum
The jury will be led by Robert M. Rogers, FAIA, partner at Rogers Partners Architects+Urban Designers. An Awards Ceremony and Reception will be held, followed by Mr. Rogers’ Spotlight on Design lecture at the museum. Tickets are required for the lecture and can be obtained on the NBM website.

The Interschool Design Competition Committee is sincerely grateful to the many institutions, architectural firms, companies, societies and associations whose generous financial gifts have made this competition possible for many years. Please consider giving time or resources again in 2015 to help the ISDC maintain its momentum as a catalyst for the academic growth of so many local students of architecture.

We invite you to partner with us in meeting our pledge goal of $8,000. For information, please contact Monica Perez, Associate AIA, Chair of the AIA Northern Virginia Schools Connections Committee. Donations may be made here.
