Carlo Scarpa and Ceiling Design: The Querini Stampalia in VeniceApril 21
At Virginia Tech’s Washington Alexandria Architecture Center (WAAC), 1001 Prince Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.
Presented by Federica Goffi, Associate Professor, Architetto (Italy), PhD, Associate Director Graduate Programs, Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism, Carleton University. Offered as the Keynote Address for the Frascari Symposium III, April 21-22.
This talk will address Carlo Scarpa’s way of working within existing edifices through ambiguous poetic conversions in terms of material imagination and the condition of listening in dialogue with craftsmanship.
In addition the talk will consider Luigi Nono’s La Fabbrica Illuminata, 1964, a steel factory in Genoa, where Nono recorded live sounds of the metallurgic production to which workers were exposed, to amplify the conditions of work exploitation in industrial factories.
Following the lecture, there will be an exhibit opening, book launch and reception.
