At AIA Headquarters, 1735 New York Avenue, NW, Washington DC 20006.
Join us for a special event celebrating Black History Month and the impressive career of Paul Revere Williams, FAIA, 2017 AIA Gold Medalist. AIA will be hosting an intimate reception, book signing and presentation by Karen Hudson, Williams’ granddaughter and the director of his archives.
Over six decades, Williams created several thousand buildings that helped shape the Los Angeles cityscape, designing some of the most iconic homes in Hollywood, hotels, housing projects and commercial buildings. Williams is among the most celebrated architects of his generation, and his work broke racial barriers. He was deeply involved in the black community in Los Angeles and in African-American affairs nationally. He was also AIA’s first African-American member (1923) and first African American Fellow (1957).
Tickets are $10; $15 at the door (limited availability). Additional information and registration are available here.
