Winning Entries

Award winners will be announced and Awards will be formally presented to the architects and owners of winning projects during the annual Design Awards Gala to be held on Saturday June 6th, 2009.

This year's distinguished jury includes:

One certificate each is provided to the architect and owner. Additional award certificates can be ordered at $25 apiece. Winning firms will be contacted after the gala regarding extra certificates.

Winning entrants shall provide the following to the AIA Northern Virginia Chapter office by Tuesday, June 30th, 2009 for use in promotions related to the Awards Program:

  • One 24" x 24" panel, 1/2" thick, illustrating the winning entry. This panel will be displayed at the Awards Banquet and elsewhere at the Chapter's discretion. The Chapter shall retain the panel for three years, after which the entrant may reclaim it. A description of the panel requirements will be provided to each winner.
  • Three 8" x 10" color glossy prints of one representative photograph of the winning project. These photographs may be reproduced and distributed with press releases to newspapers and architectural publications.

Winning project binders will be displayed at the June 6th Design Awards Gala. Following the publication of winning projects in the AIA Northern Virginia News, winning entrants may replace their original submission binder with a copy comprised of high quality reproductions of the originally submitted drawings and photographs. The replacement entry binder and the display board will remain at the Chapter House for three years. After that time, firms will be contacted about picking up their material. Acceptance of an award shall constitute an agreement by the entrant to authorize the American Institute of Architects Northern Virginia Chapter to reproduce any of the material described above for publicity purposes related to the awards program, and an agreement to indemnify and hold the Northern Virginia Chapter harmless in connection with such material.

Non-winning entries must be reclaimed from the AIA Northern Virginia Chapter office within two weeks after the Awards Banquet. To have submissions returned by mail, provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Although every reasonable precaution shall be taken in handling submitted material, the Northern Virginia Chapter may not be held responsible for the loss of, or damage to, any submission or display panel.
